A list of securities selected for special surveillance by a brokerage, exchange or regulatory organization; firms on the list are often takeover targets, companies planning to issue new securities or stocks showing unusual activity. |

SpecialistOn an exchange, the member firm that is designated as the market maker (or dealer for a listed common stock). Only one specialist can be designated for a given stock, but dealers may be specialists for several stocks. In contrast, there can be multiple market makers in the OTC market.
Listed stocks
Stocks that are traded on an exchange.
Grey list
Used in the context of general equities. Formal grouping of stocks which can be traded by the block desks, but not in risk arbitrage due to an Investment banks 0involvement with the company on non-public activity (i.e., Mergers and Acquisitions defense). A stock's being on this list should never be conveyed to anyone outside of the trading area, much less outside of the firm.
Specialist System
A type of trading commonly used for the exchange trading of securities in which one individual or firm acts as a market-maker in a particular security, with the obligation to see that trading in that security is fair and orderly by offsetting temporary imbalances in supply and demand by trading for his own account.
